F.I.P LOL Policy C.Y. 2023

Loss of License Policy is a cover taken to insure against any loss of income to the member pilot due to medical reasons/unfitness. It is a group policy covering the Members of the Federation of Indian Pilots (F.I.P) based on Loss of License on Medical grounds only. This policy covers the member for Temporary Medical Unfitness (TMU) and Permanent Medical Unfitness (PMU) declared only by the competent board (DGCA Class 1 Medical Examiner). While Accidental Death is covered, Natural death is not covered in this policy.

The following four categories of pilots are eligible to avail of a LOL Policy:

Age Band: Upto 65 years of age.

Non-flying Pilots: Pilots holding a valid flying license by DGCA and valid medical certificate/assessment by the competent authority to exercise privileges of the same license, but are presently not flying (due to company closure/compulsory leave without pay/pilot who is pregnant).
Age Band: Upto 55 years of age.

Ab-initio Pilots: Pilots having valid flying license by DGCA and valid medical certificate/assessment by the competent authority to exercise privileges of the same license, but have never been employed as Pilots in India.

TMU compensation is calculated in the following manner:

* Step 1: 75% of the net salary as per Form 16 of FY 2021-22 OR Net Pay for the last 3 months as per the salary slip which will be evaluated and the higher of the 2 will be considered.

* Step 2: The above amount will be then compared to 1.25% of the SI and the lower of the same will be considered.

TMU Compensation starts 60 days (cooling period) from being declared TMU by Company Doctor/Competent Medical Practitioner or DGCA Class 1 Medical Examiner and ends on the date of receipt of fitness form CA-35 from DGCA Class 1 Medical Examiner; subject to a maximum of 15 months post the date of medical unfitness.
